For the research project ‘Developments and determinants of vaccination coverage National Vaccination Programme’ of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) we are looking for a PHD student / PhD candidate. This project is carried out in cooperation with Statistics Netherlands (CBS). You will be working at the National Vaccination Programme department of the Centre for Epidemiology and Surveillance of Infectious Diseases and will collaborate intensively with researchers from other departments at RIVM and with Statistics Netherlands.
Your research and the data from the project will be used to provide a national overview of vaccination coverage at the small-scale level. The aim is to contribute to insights into local infection risks and to the design of targeted local interventions.
As a PhD student you will have an active role in setting up and carrying out the project in which, using the vaccination register at the RIVM and other existing registers at Statistics Netherlands, research will be carried out into population characteristics associated with vaccination coverage and developments over time with regard to vaccination coverage.
You ensure that the logistics surrounding the project run smoothly. You will keep abreast of relevant scientific literature and write academic articles in English resulting in a dissertation. You will present the results of your work at (inter)national conferences.
Job requirements
- You have a completed MSc. biomedical sciences, health sciences, medicine or similar research-oriented training.
- You have knowledge of quantitative data collection and analyzing this data using static programs such as SAS or R (Pré).
- You have an affinity for conducting data linkage studies.
- You have good communication skills in word and writing.
- You make contact easily and are enterprising.
- You have integrity.
- You like to organize and you have perseverance.
- You can work well independently and cooperate well.
Terms of employment
Salary descriptionThe salary (36-hour working week) is determined on the basis of the salary scales of the CAO Rijks (Chapters 6, 17 and 19) and increases in four steps from scale 8, step 0 (as at 01 July 2020 € 2,623 gross per month) to scale 8, step 8 (as at 1 July 2020 € 3,546 gross per month) in the fourth year.

Maximum number of hours per week: 36
Other terms of employment
