At the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich, an Assistant Professorship with Tenure Track for "Cancer Epidemiology” is open for applications.

The professorship is named "Giorgio Noseda Professorship" after the founder Prof. Giorgio Noseda. It is located at the Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Prevention Institute of the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich and benefits from the attractive medical and research location with the University of Zurich, University Hospital Zurich and ETH Zurich. It is intended that the new professor, if appropriately qualified, will at the same time Scientific Director of the National Institute of Cancer Epidemiology and Registration (NICER;

The newly created Giorgio Noseda Professorship of Cancer Epidemiology will conduct innovative crossdisciplinary research in the four closely related areas of the causes and monitoring of cancer and the early detection (screening) and treatment of cancer. Highly topical issues such as screening, new drugs or radiation options and their benefits, harms and costs will be explored using a combination of population-based data, clinical care data and mathematical modelling.

The candidate to be appointed should have proven expertise in data science with data for monitoring and care of chronic diseases, preferably cancer. The candidate should have expertise in analyzing and evaluating the benefits, harms and costs of early detection and care from a population-based and health system perspective. Expertise in complex modelling and the primary research derived from it is explicitly desired. Knowledge of the Swiss health care system and cancer registries is an advantage. 

The successful candidate will have an internationally recognized record of independent research in epidemiology, biostatistics or a closely related subject with correspondingly competitive third-party funding. Important for this position are very good communication and cooperation skills, as well as a high degree of integration ability, positive experience in interdisciplinary teams and a sense for overall goals. A willingness to play a central role in population-based cancer research in Switzerland is desirable. A pronounced motivation in innovative teaching and promotion of young scientists is also desired.
