We offer a one of a kind opportunity to become part of the Sanquin Future Health donor biobank during its installation and commissioning. The Department Donor Medicine Research, part of Donor Studies research group, Sanquin Research in Amsterdam is looking for a Scientific Biobank Coordinator.

Sanquin Future Health makes use of left-over materials from blood and plasma donations for scientific research on health and disease prediction and prevention. Initially, a total of 15,000 donors will be included and followed-up every 6 months with new sampling and questionnaires.
This high-frequency sampling, Sanquin’s nationwide coverage, and linkage to external data sources enables longitudinal studies and machine learning into biomarker and exposome interactions preceding and during early (pre)stages of developing disease.
Our ultimate goal is to contribute to disease prevention, thereby limiting the burden of disease and reducing societal health care costs, through long term examination of hundreds of thousands of yearly donations. You will have a pivotal role in realizing this new cornerstone of data collection and interpretation. The data have a unique source (i.e. from healthier-than-average persons) and, as such, are to be a one of a kind source to scientific researchers, possibly on a global scale.

Your responsibilities
Core activities include:

Drafting an overall program plan in close collaboration with stakeholders.
Setting up and executing all tasks related to an overall data management plan.
Installing a biobank committee and defining the protocol and guidelines for data and sample access.
Building and extending a network of (inter)national experts for collaborative studies. Coordinate requests for data and sample usage.
Apply for research funding to secure efficient usage of the materials and running business and to expand the biobank activities.
During the current installation phase of the biobank you provide scientific support to a (temporary) program manager. This person manages the initiation of the biobank through related subprojects that are conducted together with our colleagues from Sanquin Research, Sanquin Blood Bank, Sanquin’s IT Department and Sanquin Diagnostics.

Requirements

PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences, Health Sciences, or a related field.
Experience with longitudinal studies, machine learning, public health, and/or disease prevention.
BROK-certified (preferably acquired before, or within 12 months after starting at Sanquin).
Strong and effective oral and written communication skills.
Broad experience in biobanking, sample management and data management.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively across several teams within and outside the organization.
Entrepreneurial mindset and excellent networking capacities.
Proven success in acquiring research funds is preferred.
Working knowledge of and experience with basic laboratory techniques is an asset.
Persevering, highly motivated and a true team player.

We offer

A 0.8-1.0 fte position for 1 year, with the intention to extend to a permanent position.
Pay and terms of employment in accordance with the Sanquin Collective Labour Agreement, FWG 60, €3,308-4,811 based on a 36-hour working week.
8.33% end-of-year bonus, i.e. a thirteenth month in case of full-year employment, and 8.33% holiday allowance;
201 hours of leave with full-time employment (36 hours/week).
