The Society and Oral Health (MMG) section of the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA) is looking for a broadly applicable, proactive and enthusiastic University Lecturer in Methodology.

JOB DESCRIPTION

ACTA provides training for undergraduate and graduate students in Dentistry. In addition, Postgraduate students are trained within various subfields of dentistry and PhD students are supervised in their research. The section seeks an associate professor who will play an important role in providing, and in time coordinating, education in the methods and techniques of epidemiological and biomedical research, and their application in dental care. Leading the way are the principles of Evidence Based (Oral) Health Care.
In addition to a hefty teaching load, there is also room for your own research, appropriate to the current research themes of the section. The section’s research interests include public health and oral health, oral health of the population particularly for vulnerable groups, the relationship between oral health and general health, the accessibility and quality of oral health care, and the effect of interventions and policies to prevent oral disease.

Your tasks

  • you will provide English and Dutch-language contact education (plenary lectures, tutorials, small working groups and practicals) to a variety of student populations with different entry levels and educational needs
  • you will develop and revise educational materials in a team environment
  • you will supervise the research of undergraduate students, master’s students and PhD students
  • you are involved in consulting and advising students, PhD students and academic staff on methods and techniques of research including data analysis and statistics
  • you will contribute to the development of scientific research projects, reporting and publication of scientific research
  • you will collaborate in writing project proposals and grant applications
  • you will conduct independent research as part of a team

FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

  • you’ve been promoted
  • you have demonstrated knowledge of methods and techniques of epidemiological, biomedical and health research and have experience in performing basic data analysis and statistical techniques
  • you have experience teaching research methodology and statistics
  • you have a Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or are willing to obtain it within 2 years
  • you have experience in methodological and statistical consulting and advisory work
  • you have proven experience writing research proposals and grant applications
  • your work attitude is collaborative

WHAT WE OFFER

We offer a challenging position for 32 to 38 hours per week (0.8-1.0 FTE) with a socially engaged academic organization.
Fixed-term employment: for the duration of 18 months with the prospect of permanent employment. Depending on relevant experience, your salary will be a minimum of € 3,821 and a maximum of € 5,230 gross per month on a full-time basis (scale 11 of the collective agreement (CAO) for Dutch Universities). The position is classified according to UFO profile: Associate Professor 2 and is open for at least 0.8 FTE (32 hours).

ACTA employs approximately 500 staff and approximately 900 students are studying Dentistry. Every day they provide dental care to approximately 600 patients.
