Characteristics teaching programme:
The master of epidemiology at the University of Antwerp provides you with knowledge, skills and competencies to set up and conduct epidemiological research. You will also immediately learn to translate to practice and policy to improve the health of people and populations. In the first year, the emphasis is on deepening your knowledge of epidemiology, statistics and research methods. You will also be introduced to the field by attending seminars and workplace visits. In the second year, you focus primarily on your own research for your master's thesis. You will be introduced to the different areas of epidemiology, such as epidemiology of infectious diseases, clinical epidemiology and environmental epidemiology. You will expand your methodological knowledge in the Advanced Methods in Epidemiology course and learn how to turn theory into practice in the Public Health, Policy and Practice course. You will also get an introduction to qualitative research, which can be used to contextualize or explain the results of quantitative studies or to generate hypotheses that can then be tested by quantitative epidemiological studies. This program can be taken full-time (two years) or part-time (four years) and welcomes students from around the world with support from a VLIR-UOS scholarship program. It has been an international experience from the beginning. All classes are taught in English. You will have the opportunity to acquire and improve your epidemiological skills by doing part of your master's thesis abroad.
