Vacancy: Epidemiologist covid vaccination monitoring
This vacancy has been nominated by the RIVM.
Would you like to get involved in the monitoring and evaluation of COVID-19 vaccination? Are you an experienced epidemiologist who works in R and has experience with large data sets and data linkage research? If so, come join us as a senior epidemiologist and strengthen our team in a highly topical and relevant field around COVID-19!
The department
At RIVM, more than 2,200 colleagues work together every day on tomorrow’s healthcare. The Epidemiology and Surveillance of Infectious Diseases (EPI) center, which falls within the infectious diseases & vaccinology domain aims to analyze and monitor the health of the Netherlands in the field of infectious diseases. At the National Vaccination Program Division, epidemiologists, in collaboration with other researchers, work on the monitoring and evaluation of COVID-19 vaccination. To do this, we are mapping vaccination coverage, examining determinants of vaccination, and how well corona vaccines protect against corona. One way we do this is by combining data from different registrations. The results will be used by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and by GGDs to make policies around corona vaccination.
Purpose of the position
Since the start of the COVID-19 vaccination program in January 2021, most people in the Netherlands have had the opportunity to be vaccinated against corona. It is important to monitor the effect of the vaccination(s). Thus, vaccination coverage can vary across groups. Also, the protection of vaccination may vary over time and among specific target groups. There is also a difference in how well vaccination works for variants of the virus.
We use several large data files and data linkage. This includes data on vaccination, demographics and possible determinants such as health, occupation and age. Part of the research is done in cooperation with CBS, in a secure CBS environment.
Work and Tasks
You will assist in epidemiological analyses of various (linked) datasets in the field of COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination, performing analyses independently and collaborating on reports and publications. Your area of focus here is determinants of vaccination and differences in vaccine effectiveness in specific groups. You will collaborate on innovative analytical methods, including correcting for possible bias.
Unique to this job
Developments in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic make the work particularly dynamic. You will be part of a passionate team and contribute to understanding protection of COVID-19 vaccination.
