Spring event young epidemiologists

The VvE working group Junior Epidemiologists of the Netherlands Society for Epidemiology (Vereniging voor Epidemiologie, VvE) organizes activities for young epidemiologists to promote research and training. We would like to bring the following online event to your attention:

Bridging the gap between epidemiological science and policy

Science cannot operate in a vacuum disconnected from public needs, especially in the field of epidemiology. Young researchers are generally highly motivated to address societal issues through their work. But how can we actively contribute to evidence-based policy and put epidemiological research to practice?
In this afternoon seminar, experts will show how researchers can step outside the academic bubble to better connect with policymakers. We will learn how societal questions are translated into tangible research questions, and how you can apply your research to support the planning, implementation and evaluation of local or national health policies.

Speakers
Annemien Haveman is an epidemiologist and Associate Professor at Wageningen University and is the coordinator of the Academic Collaborative Centre AGORA.
Esther Metting is an epidemiologist and Assistant professor at the University of Groningen and has been involved in various national COVID-19 projects.
Gerard Smit has extensive experience in research and teaching of data visualization methods at the Hogeschool Utrecht. He is also a freelance trainer for data visualization.
